DIGICEL DONATES TO ‘BREAST FRIENDS’

Friday, 8th April 2011 – St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: Digicel Antigua and Barbuda today donated EC$5,500 to Breast Friends, a non-profit Breast Cancer Awareness and support organisation.

The donation is a result of a ten-week promotion from mid January, which saw EC$50 from every Samsung C3510 phone purchased being contributed towards a special Breast Friends fund. The presentation was made to Breast Friends President, Eunetta Bird, by Digicel General Manager, John Delves, for whom this charity hits close to home.

“I understand the need to support such an initiative as my mom is an eight-year cancer survivor, so it gives me great joy to assist in any way,” Mr. Delves said.

“I am taking this opportunity to appeal to everyone to educate themselves about the disease because, only with knowledge, will we be able to take preventative measures for both men and women to get checked regularly.”

Digicel’s cell phone promotion to raise funds for Breast Friends will continue as, according to Mr. Delves, the company will keep a selection of pink phones in stock, from which a portion of sales will go towards assisting Breast Friends in its fight against cancer.

Ms Bird expressed her gratitude for the donation: “We are extremely delighted for Digicel’s assistance, as over previous years there has been a lack of financial support for Breast Friends. This money will go towards printing of T-shirts and purchasing educational materials for our Pink Ribbon Walk on Saturday 7th May which will help us to help others.”

Registration forms for this event are available at all Digicel stores in Antigua and Barbuda. Ms Bird further extended an invitation to everyone to support the Pink Ribbon Fun Walk taking place this Mother’s Day weekend.
